For parents and caregivers, it is almost impossible to keep up with the latest research and methods that will help our children succeed in school. That’s where our valued staff and Early Literacy Classes come in. Our Youth Department staff have years of experience in early literacy, both professionally and personally, and are willing to do everything in their power to help you and your child navigate the world of beginning reading. Our Early Literacy Classes are designed for parents/caregivers and children to experience stories and singing together. Sadly, within the United States, 30–50% of children enter kindergarten without the skills needed to be ready to learn. Studies show that children who experience shared reading, storytelling, and singing have improved school readiness. (Source: Academy of Pediatrics article) We encourage all participants to stay after class to play, meet other families, and select library books to take home so they can continue to share stories.
